In Environment, Sustainable Cities, Trinity College Dublin, UN SDG 15 Life on Land, wildflower

Wildflower craze! What an amazing turn-out -13,850 votes in total! Of these, an astounding 12,496 (90%) are in favour of Trinity converting their lawns on College Green, outside of Front Gate, to wildflower meadows.

The vote campaign was initiated as part of the Trinity’s response to Ireland’s biodiversity crisis.  Lawn-mowing, ground preparation and pesticide control can disturb insects that feed and nest in the soil. Wildflowers support biodiversity and provide a habitat for native insects and food for pollinators in the city centre.

A wonderful example of city centre rewilding and support for biodiversity.

Thank you for voting and for influencing such awesome positive change!
